Astronaut Buzz Aldrin Set to Divorce for the Third Time

After 23 years of marriage, the second man to step on the moon, 81-year-old Buzz Aldrin, is going to separate from his wife, Lois. Lois is Aldrin’s third wife. The two married on Valentine’s Day in 1988. At the time, Aldrin told newspapers about how Lois helped him through his struggles with alcoholism and depression. Spouses of retirement age who are seeking a divorce may wish to speak to a Houston prenuptial agreement attorney about their particular needs. Since becoming a celebrity for his time on the moon on July 29, 1969, Aldrin has continued to remain in the spotlight for his various activities. Aldrin has written children’s books and an autobiography, and also operated a rocket design business. He even recorded a song, “Rocket Experience,” with rap artist Snoop Dogg, and, last year, Aldrin appeared on the hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars.” Aldrin’s first marriage ended around the time that he landed on the moon. Some of the difficulties from adjusting to life after returning back to Earth led to the breakup. He had three children with his first wife, Joan Archer. Aldrin then married Beverly Zile, though that marriage lasted just three years. Legal advice on…

Presidential Hopeful Divorces Husband, Marries the People

Divorce has become a controversial issue in the upcoming election in the Central American country of Guatemala. Its current President Alvaro Colom came into office in 2007. With the first round of new elections coming this fall, one of the candidates hoping to succeed him is Sandra Torres, Colom’s wife. Torres ran into a problem, though, as Guatemala forbids family members of current presidents from running in the next election. As a result, she opted for a divorce. Guatemala has the provision in order to prevent scandals and a sole family from dominating politics in the country. Hoping to be the country’s first female president, Torres decided that a divorce was more important than marriage. As she tells newspapers, “I am divorcing my husband, but marrying the people.” For information on divorce, a Houston divorce lawyer is available to assist spouses. Ironically, the divorce may actually prevent Torres’s chances at becoming the next Guatemalan president. It is a religious country, mostly Catholic, and the divorce seems to have brought a stigma to Torres. Some Guatemalans see Torres’s decision as a decline in moral values, a trait they do not want in the leader of their country. Details on the impact…

Ex-Wife of Michael Douglas Seeks “Money Never Sleeps” Proceeds

The ex-wife of Michael Douglas continues to seek divorce settlement money 11 years after the divorce. Diandra Douglas is asking for proceeds from Douglas’s latest hit movie, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” the sequel to the 1987 movie “Wall Street.” Diandra Douglas and Michael divorced in 2000 after 23 years of marriage. A Houston divorce attorney can provide a spouse more details on the financial effects of divorce after being married for a long time. Diandra filed her lawsuits in Manhattan, the wrong location according to the judge handling the matter. The New York Supreme Court Justice upheld an earlier decision that said that the California court maintains jurisdiction over Diandra and Michael’s divorce. The judge cited a clause in the divorce agreement that says that the California court has exclusive jurisdiction. Diandra refuses to back down, however, and plans to appeal the latest decision. Her divorce from Michael entitles her to a 50/50 split of proceeds from projects spun off of ones that Michael did while the two were together. Diandra claims that this is why she should receive money from the latest “Wall Street” movie given that they were together at the time of the first one. Lawyers…

Divorce Puts Dodgers Baseball Franchise in Jeopardy

Since 2004, Frank McCourt and his wife Jamie have been owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball franchise. A real estate executive, Frank initially went after the Boston Red Sox, but, after unsuccessfully bidding for that storied franchise, he managed to purchase the Dodgers from Rupert Murdoch’s Newscorp for $430 million. Couples with significant financial assets should consider speaking with a Houston prenuptial agreement attorney about the effects of divorce. This August, a judge will decide who owns the Dodgers as a result of the divorce between Frank and Jamie who had been together for 30 years. If the judge awards the team solely to Frank, then Frank has agreed to pay Jamie $100 million, and Jamie will also get the couple’s homes. If the judge determines that they both own the team, the two will split the franchise’s assets 50/50. The divorce proceedings make ownership of the Dodgers even more uncertain given recent problems with the team’s finances. In April, commissioner Bud Selig placed an MLB representative in charge of the Dodgers’ finances. Frank financed his purchase of the Dodgers largely with debt and a personal loan from Fox Entertainment Group. Fox foreclosed on some of Frank’s Boston parking…
