Singer Faith Evans and Husband Divorce After 13 Years

Singer, actress and author Faith Evans filed for divorce from her husband Todd Russaw. The two had been married for 13 years. Evans became famous in the 1990s for being the first female recording artist to sign a contract with Bad Boy Entertainment, a record label that Sean “Diddy” Combs and Mark Pitts founded in 1993. The Bad Boy label has signed such artists as The Notorious B.I.G., Mase and Dirt Money.

Evans began singing cover songs at the age of 2 at her local church in New Jersey. After attending Fordham University for a year, she moved to Los Angeles and performed backup vocals for several artists. It was in Los Angeles that she crossed paths with Sean Combs, then known as Puff Daddy.

Shortly after signing with Bad Boy, Evans met and married famous rapper, The Notorious B.I.G. When the rapper died in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles in the spring of 1997, Evans and Combs produced the hit song “I’ll Be Missing You,” which sampled The Police’s 1983 song “Every Breath you Take.”  Evans sang the chorus in the song.

Evans met record company executive Todd Russaw in 1997 and married him a year later. The couple had two boys together. For couples with substantial assets, particularly those in the entertainment industry, a Texas prenuptial agreement is advisable. Couples can obtain more information on such agreements from a Houston prenuptial agreement attorney.
