Stressful Divorce Allegedly Causes Mother to Kill Two Kids

Police are accusing a 41-year-old mother from Castle Rock, Colorado, a town 25 miles south of Denver, of killing her two children, a 6-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy. Officials suspect that Kelli Murphy killed her children as a result of a tumultuous divorce from her husband and a recent bankruptcy filing. This case ended as tragically as possible. For an experienced Houston divorce lawyer, the focus is always on helping a spouse move on as amicably as possible.

Murphy took out a restraining order against her estranged husband in early March. In the request for order, she noted several instances of his being physically or emotionally abusive towards their two children. In one instance, Murphy claimed her husband held their daughter’s head under the bath faucet because she was not washing soap off her quickly enough. Those familiar with the case are unsure why, then, Murphy sought to withdraw the divorce petition in mid-April.

On Monday morning, May 23rd, at 7:48a.m., Murphy called a police dispatcher and said that she was feeling suicidal. The dispatcher asked if there were any children in the house, and Murphy said the children were in heaven. Police found the two kids, Liam and Madigan, in their beds with no visible signs of injury. The coroner has not yet determined a cause of death. More information on helping children and spouses cope with the impact of a divorce is available from a Houston divorce attorney.
