Shriver Tells Attorney, Get Divorce Over Quick

Each couple approaches divorce differently. Sometimes bitterness erupts and divorcing spouses find themselves fighting over the big-ticket items like homes and car all the way down to dishtowels and silverware. Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger appear to be taking the opposite approach, however, hoping to get it over with as soon as possible.

Last week, Arnold decided to stop fighting Maria’s request for alimony and to cover legal fees for both sides. Now Maria is reportedly telling her divorce attorney to finish it as soon as possible. Under California law, the earliest this could happen would be six months after filing. Maria filed earlier in July, citing irreconcilable differences as the official reason.

Maria’s goal is to get back to work as soon as possible. She wants to put her divorce behind her. Sources say that the major TV networks have been offering her work. Work is one way that spouses can put divorce behind them, but is that alone sufficient? Work may just become a way to avoid handling things that you need to overcome. Keeping busy certainly helps to avoid idle time that might be spent with negative thoughts, but speaking with friends and family is also an effective way to deal with the pain. Let us know what worked for you to overcome a difficult divorce over time.
